Spanish Guitar Music from the Classical and Romantic Periods

The classical guitar and the flamenco guitar are considered two different paths to the same musical goal. Classically trained guitarist Roger Tristão Adao lived in Seville for nearly a year, where he immersed himself in the tradition of flamenco.
This concert juxtaposes works from the classical guitar repertoire with their Spanish roots. Many well-known compositions draw on traditional flamenco dance and musical forms. For example, “Cádiz” is written in the form of an “Alegrías,” while Isaac Albéniz incorporates elements of the “Granadinas” into his famous piece “Granada.”
The guitar was already experiencing a golden age during Mozart’s time. Composers transformed folk melodies into musical gems through artful arrangements. Such works are also part of the program.
The concert offers a glimpse into traditional Spanish music and demonstrates how closely folk music, flamenco, and classical guitar art are intertwined.
