What an attitude to life, the "seventies" !!! Colorful ornamental wallpaper, parkas, hot pants and platform shoes. Standing out was the order of the day, even in the former GDR.

The band was unmistakable and independent, distinguishing itself through its musical and lyrical profundity. Setting themselves apart was a balancing act that lyricist Kurt Demmler managed particularly well. His poetry, a mixture of emotional profundity and social criticism, was cleverly packaged and was often not accessible to those with a superficial mindset. Some lyrics slipped through the censor and revealed themselves to fans who had learned to read between the lines. The songs reached their hearts and gave them courage.

They were produced in the Hansa recording studio in what was then West Berlin, right next to the Wall. During one of the last mixing sessions, the tapping of the "Mauerspechte" could be heard through the open studio windows. Within two days, the lyrics and music for a very topical Wall song were written. A graffiti with the word "Marie" on the west side of the wall inspired Michael Sellin to write the lyrics "Marie die Mauer fällt". The composition came from drummer Jochen Hohl and the song was arranged by Franz Bartsch. The ZDF Hit Parade studio was filled with goosebumps as the audience sang along after the first dress rehearsal: "Marie, the wall is falling, we're getting closer and closer. Those with dreams and those with money will find each other sooner or later."

However, shortly after the album was released, the songs were drowned out by the knocking of the "Mauerspechte". Karussell fell silent for almost 17 years.

Then the son of band founder Wolf Rüdiger Raschke, Joe Raschke, brought the Karussell songs back to life: "I often looked out of my bedroom window after the Karussell truck when it left our yard to go on tour again. I would have loved to be there! I kept my dream and above all the music deep in my heart and in 2007 I managed to get my father interested in Karussell again. The old songs had so much to say to the new times, the lyrics were more topical than ever before".

So the band was put back on a healthy footing with Reinhard Huth (voc., git.), Jan Kirsten (bass) and Wolf Rüdiger Raschke (keyb) as the original line-up of Karussell, as well as Hans Graf (git.), Benny Jähnert (drums), and Joe Raschke (voc, harp, keyb).

Joe Raschke, the new charismatic front man, sensitive interpreter and excellent harp player, enriches the band and ensures harmonious cooperation between the generations.

In this line-up, with this honest, handmade rock music, with sensitively interpreted songs that get under your skin as well as an extremely lively stage show and great joy of playing, the band has been captivating its familiar audience since 2007 and is constantly winning over new fans.

The album "Loslassen", released in 2011, with the new hits "Oben sein", "Rettet unsere Nacht", "Zweitgesicht" and "Stern der Liebe" is in no way inferior to the first four albums and does not disappoint Karussell's old fans in any way. The album was produced in the Hansa recording studios. It picks up where everything ended in 1989. It was mastered at Stirling Sound in New York. The band is recognizable, has retained its lyrical and musical standards and impresses with a contemporary sound.

The album "Karussell-Das Beste, Musik unserer Generation", released in April 2014, is a musical journey through time, evokes memories and emotions, but also inspires with current songs and thus unites listeners across several generations.

Joe Raschke: "We have grown together as if it had never been otherwise. And that closes the circle of past, future, father, son, friends, humanity and music."
