Information day of the Stasi Records Archive with citizen consultation and lecture
The Stasi Records Archive invites you to a citizens' consultation and lecture on June 17 in Greifswald
:
13:00 - 17:00:
The Federal Archives - Stasi Records Archive and the State Commissioner for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship are offering a citizens' consultation. An employee of the Stasi Records Archive in Rostock will explain the regulations for accessing the Stasi files and help with the application process. A valid identity document is required for this. Questions about the rehabilitation of political injustice in the GDR will be answered by an employee of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship.
18.00 hrs:
Anti-fascism was a state doctrine in the GDR. But how did the SED dictatorship actually deal with the National Socialist legacy, anti-Semitic and xenophobic phenomena and neo-fascist tendencies? How did these continue to have an impact after the fall of the GDR? Dr. Volker Höffer (historian, Federal Archives - Stasi Records Archive) will explore these questions in his lecture at the St. Spiritus Socio-Cultural Centre in Greifswald using the example of the GDR Baltic Sea district of Rostock and on the basis of extensive research in the records of the GDR secret police. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for discussion with the audience.
