Reading with Kristine von Soden from her new book

The sea - for many, it has always been the most beautiful place to get away from the daily grind, to organize thoughts and put them down on paper: to dream, to spin crazy ideas, to set off for new shores barefoot, even in your head. In her fine feuilletonistic style, the author presents in her new book an impressive selection of prominent names from literature who loved the sea and wrote by the sea. With a fine feel for the respective natural backdrops, she adds dazzling poetic finds from other pens to her portraits.

For example, a long chapter is dedicated to Thomas Mann. The writer spent three summers - from 1930 to 1932 - with his family in Nida. Here he kept to his usual agenda, continued work on the tetralogy "Joseph and his Brothers", wrote the essay "My Summer House" and wrote various articles, letters to editors and publishers, translators and friends.

The reading thus establishes a direct link to the exhibition "Künstlerkolonie Nidden" at the Kunstmuseum.

Admission: 10 Euro
