Author Walter Mülich, who lived for many years in the Elbe-Weser Triangle, will present his new novel, “No Rest Before the Storm.” Mülich lived for many decades in Bremerhaven and Hamburg, between the Weser and the Elbe. He now lives in Dresden and works as a writer. His new book—his fourth to date—spans a fascinating arc from northern Germany to South America:

The story begins in Hamburg. The steamship “Lucie Woermann” sets sail in 1920. Its destination is the Chilean coast, where more than 47 tall ships are to be manned with new crews. On this journey—which actually took place—the most incredible things happened. The novel, however, goes beyond this. It takes readers to other, foreign lands and to distant coasts and islands. In the process, a wide variety of life stories come to life. A colorful world of love and longing unfolds, but also one of struggle, intrigue, and betrayal. In this storm of time, the dangers of the sea stand alongside the search for life’s safe harbor. The story is set in Hamburg, Bremen, and Dresden; the Panama Canal; Iquique, Chile; as well as Togo and Samoa.
