Experience what it was like to print a Bible - like Hans Witte in Barth in 1588. Immerse yourself in the world of book printing in the 16th century and experience first-hand how Bibles were printed in Barth over 400 years ago! Under the title "Printing in Barth like Hans Witte", the Barth Bible Center invites you to a special guided tour that combines the history, technology and artistry of book printing.
The focus is on the famous Barth Bible from 1588, printed by the printer Hans Witte. With around 1,600 pages, artistically designed title pages, colorful initials, almost 100 engravings and pictorial medallions, this Bible edition is considered a masterpiece of Renaissance printing art. Participants in the guided tour learn how the print was elaborately designed in red and black, how the intertitle pages of the Prophets and the New Testament are designed and what role Duke Bogislaw XIII and the ducal printing privilege played in this.
