On April 30, at 4 p.m., the Rostock Maritime Museum in IGA Park will host a presentation of the hot-off-the-press anthology "Das Schiff war unsere Welt. Seafarers tell their stories".
The volume of stories provides an insight into everyday life on board from six decades of Rostock's shipping history. The focus is on the stories and experiences of contemporary witnesses from the late 1950s to the present day.
Seafaring exerts a very special fascination: It stands for distant lands, adventure and the romance of the open sea. But how did and do seafarers experience their everyday working life at sea, the shore leave in distant ports and the long absence from home?
The numerous stories convey a multi-layered picture of life on board and seafaring through the ages in merchant shipping, research shipping and deep-sea fishing.
