Premiere at the Literaturkreis Stralsund: First poetry evening on the 100th birthday of Ingeborg Bachmann

The Stralsund Literature Circle invites you to a special premiere: for the first time in its three-and-a-half-year history, the circle is dedicating an entire evening to poetry. The occasion is the 100th birthday of Ingeborg Bachmann, one of the most important German-language poets of the 20th century, who was born in Klagenfurt on June 25, 1926.

Bachmann's volumes of poetry "Die gestundete Zeit" (1953) and "Anrufung des Großen Bären" (1956) are among the most influential works of post-war German-language poetry. With a language that hovers between clarity and mystery, Bachmann has left behind a body of work that tells of the search for truth, the power and powerlessness of language and the longing for a better life - and which has lost none of its urgency to this day.

On this special evening, the Stralsund Literature Circle would like to (re)discover Bachmann's poems together. If you like, bring along a poem by Ingeborg Bachmann that particularly appeals to you and read it aloud. The group then discusses the poem - without the constraints of school interpretation, but with space for personal impressions, sound and silence between the verses.

Anyone who has not yet found access to Bachmann's poetry or simply wants to listen is just as welcome. No previous knowledge is required, curiosity is enough.

Tip: Bachmann's "Complete Poems" (Piper Verlag) are available in the city library; many of her poems are also available as audio recordings at http://lyrikline.org.

The literature circle will meet on June 11, 2026 at 7 pm in the event room of the Stralsund City Library. Admission is free, registration is not required.
