Ceremony featuring a film screening and regional delicacies
This year, we welcome Dierhagen as a new venue for the Darß Nature Film Festival. The film “Animals in a Frenzy – Evolution’s Happy Hour” by Susanne Maria Krauß and Robert Sigl sets the tone for the festival week. Afterward, we’ll wrap up the evening with a get-together featuring snacks and drinks at the Ostseehotel Dierhagen.
Film screening : “Animals on a Binge – Evolution’s Happy Hour”
A binge alert in the animal kingdom! Chimpanzees stuff themselves with fermented star apples. Are our closest relatives into alcohol, and do they understand its effects and consequences? Dolphins play with the danger of the neurotoxin found in pufferfish. Lemurs get high on a poisonous millipede. Beetles act as “drug dealers,” making an entire ant colony addicted to a mysterious substance. And cats indulge in the intoxicating effects of the catnip Nepeta cataria—for a relaxing 15-minute trip? These are states—some familiar to us, others entirely foreign—triggered by nature’s toxic substances. This elaborately filmed nature documentary explores the small “high society” of the animal kingdom. Through intoxicating imagery, it soberly observes how the animal’s intoxication manifests itself.
