Piano Recital: A Musical and Poetic Journey
On August 8, Ukrainian pianist Vasyl Kotys—one of the most distinguished artists at the Rostock University of Music and Drama—will take the stage. The pianist, who has received numerous international awards, is a prize winner at renowned competitions, and serves as a lecturer at the Rostock University of Music and Drama (HMT), will present a program that creates a fascinating dialogue between French Impressionism and German Romanticism.
Claude Debussy’s *Images* (Series 2) will open the evening with dazzling soundscapes full of color and subtle nuances. The focus is on Robert Schumann’s *Kreisleriana*, Op. 16—a masterpiece that balances poetic intimacy with passionate expressiveness, complemented by the lyrical *Arabesque*, Op. 18.
The program concludes with Maurice Ravel’s *Gaspard de la Nuit*, featuring the movements “Ondine,” “Le Gibet,” and “Scarbo.” The work ranks among the most demanding compositions in the piano repertoire and combines virtuosic brilliance with an impressive musical imagery.
Vasyl Kotys has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras both in Germany and abroad and has appeared, among other venues, at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. His interpretations are characterized by tonal subtlety, stylistic mastery, and great narrative power. This piano recital promises a musical journey that is as sophisticated as it is atmospherically rich.
