For years, American Lilian Steiner (Jodie Foster) has called Paris home. There, she has not only put down roots but has also earned an excellent reputation as a skilled psychotherapist. But then her patient Paula (Virginie Efira) dies. According to the police, it was a suicide—and that throws Lilian completely off track. But she has doubts about the official account of Paula’s death. So the therapist begins investigating on her own—together with her ex-husband Gabriel (Daniel Auteuil), who is still mourning her. And it quickly becomes clear: the case isn’t as cut-and-dried as the police would have us believe.
