OST*WEST*FRAU - Reading with Franziska Hauser and Kerstin Hensel
The texts in this polyphonic anthology deal with imprints and attributions, told on the basis of one's own biography, one's own intimacy. An idea that arose from an encounter between the East German author Franziska Hauser and her West German colleague Maren Wurster. They realized that not every East German woman was an emancipated worker or artist who easily juggled family and job, and not every West German woman ran the household and raised the children in silent dependence on her husband. Our life plans are fed by more than just political systems. There is rebellion and contradictory diversity everywhere. And yet the questions in this anthology provide unexpected literary answers: How does growing up in different social systems shape our sexuality, our motherhood, our love? Are there good and bad nurseries? Are experiences of childhood and foreignness political? How can encounters be possible and do differences remain?
Franziska Hauser, born in 1975, studied at the Weißensee School of Art and the Ostkreuzschule. Her novel "Die Gewitterschwimmerin" was nominated for the German Book Prize in 2018.
Kerstin Hensel, born in 1961, studied at the Institute for Literature in Leipzig after training as a nurse. She teaches at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her work includes poetry, novels and short stories.
