Organ concert with Matthias Pech, Stralsund. Works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Gustav August Merkel and August Gottfried Ritter will be played.
Johann Sebastian Bach, 1685 - 1754, was the most important composer of the Baroque period and had a lasting influence on church and organ music. His works are characterized by artistic polyphony and great expressiveness. His chorales and fugues are particularly impressive on a Buchholz organ, because these instruments reproduce the clear and powerful sound of the Baroque period so well.
Gustav Adolf Merkel, 1827 - 1885, was a German organist, composer and music teacher of the Romantic period. He worked for a long time at various churches in Dresden and taught at music institutions there. In the second half of the 19th century, his organ pieces were among the most frequently played works.
August Gottfried Ritter was a German organist, music teacher and composer. He was particularly committed to cultivating the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and composed many organ pieces himself. He worked in Erfurt, Merseburg and Magdeburg and even became Royal Director of Music. His textbook "The Art of Organ Playing" deserves special mention. He is considered the founder of musicology.
