Presentation of the project & first planting campaign
Participants are welcome to join in the creation of the first community garden in the Amber City. Garden designer Sus Reeg, together with the association Fruchtwechsel e.V. and the city library, has launched the idea of creating an open garden in the city center for people to meet, socialize, garden and harvest together.
The city has made the area of the former kitchen garden of the monastery in Alte Klosterstraße available for this purpose. A planning group has already been set up and other interested parties are welcome to join.
Participation desired
The garden still needs lots of volunteers who would like to help out and get involved on a voluntary basis. The plans include
- various nature modules
- a vegetable garden
- a snack garden
- activities with daycare centers and school classes
Why a community garden?
The community garden is not just about gardening together - it also creates something growing for the urban community: a place of experience for everyone. Gardening close to nature is important to promote biodiversity in inner-city areas.
Sus Reeg supports the volunteer group in the early days as an expert in natural gardens and permaculture projects. Fruchtwechsel e.V. and the city library are supporting the project, including with the seed library and events on the 17 sustainability goals of Agenda 2030.
By joining forces, the existing meadow is set to become a colorful community garden this year - where things are humming and buzzing. We are looking for further contributors who would like to develop the garden into a special nature experience. The garden should not only help plants to grow, but also strengthen togetherness: a place where ideas grow and the community takes center stage.
Get involved! A great opportunity to get to know local people, do something meaningful together, enjoy fresh air and help shape a piece of nature.
For the opening: Please bring along
The first plants and shrubs will be moving into the garden at the opening.
If possible, please bring a spade.
