Semi-professor Doppter Jöppner opens the door of the former ropery for art viewings and presents the future visions for this extraordinary place.
Axel Joppen, aka Semiprofessor Doppter Jöppner, art activist and theater educator, has big plans for the former rope factory at Plauer Straße 1 in Lübz. Art will be exhibited in the store, the former "House of Good Cigars", from Whitsun 2026. A sculpture garden in solidarity is planned for the outside area in the long term. The aim is to create a place of creativity and vitality where art can be created, exhibited and experienced. With exhibitions by various artists, lectures, concerts, garden events and much more, the Seilerei will connect people and make culture accessible from KunstOffen2026 onwards. The first exhibition, entitled "Opening", introduces the project and invites future participation.
Axel Joppen, born in 1970, grew up in Moers on the Lower Rhine, learned stone sculpting and founded the "Ästhetiker Gewerkschaft", an ensemble for action art, together with Goldberg-based artist Johannes Terbach in 1995. He was a member of musician and performance artist Frank Köllges' "Adam Noidlt Missiles" for 16 years, studied theater pedagogy with intercultural competence in Berlin and worked in the fields of sculpture, performance, dance theater, graphics, photography and installation in Germany and abroad. In 2024, he took part in the Lupinale at the Center for Circular Art in Lübz. Since August 2025, he has been revitalizing the Seilerei at Plauer Straße 1, which had been empty for a long time. A space for creativity and developing potential is now being created there.
