Open singing on the Day of German Unity. Well-known songs on the theme, to sing along to
Saturday, October 3, marks the 36th anniversary of the Day of German Unity. As in previous years, the focus of the official celebrations will not be on politicians, but on all fellow human beings, and instead of grand speeches, the music that unites people in East and West will speak by singing together. There will be singing in around 100 German towns and villages throughout Germany on the evening of October 3. Rügen is also taking part, with an event at 6 p.m. in front of Sagarder Kirche, August-Bebel-Straße 16. In the event of bad weather or windy conditions, the event will take place in the spacious church.
Songs that unite Germany and that have been selected by a nationwide organizing committee will be sung together, including "Über sieben Brücken musst du geh'n", which was one of the great successes of German rock music in both East and West, "Die Gedanken sind frei". The national anthem and the European anthem are also a must on a day like this.
Everyone is welcome to sing along, the Sagard church choir will lead the singing in Sagard and accompany it on the piano and other instruments. Song sheets are available on site. The event is free of charge.
