Two tours of hmt Rostock
1. Guided tour at 11 a.m. on the topic “25 Years of hmt Rostock at St. Katharinenstift.” Twenty-five years ago, in the spring of 2001, the university moved into the former St. Katharinenstift. This made a long-cherished dream come true: to breathe new life into the abandoned monastery building in the eastern part of the Old Town. That is why the university is opening its doors on National Heritage Day to give visitors a chance to experience the modern use of one of the city’s oldest buildings.
2. Guided tour at 2:00 p.m.: on the topic “800 Years of Francis of Assisi.” In October 1226—800 years ago—Francis of Assisi died at the age of 45. Even during the founder’s lifetime, there were approximately 150 Franciscan monasteries scattered across Europe. In the first third of the 13th century, the first friars arrived in the newly founded city of Rostock via Lübeck. The Franciscan history of the current home of the University of Music and Theater is still very much evident and, in many ways, shapes university life. A guided tour will be held to explore this.
Afterward, there will be an opportunity to take a look at the new extension building, which the Rostock State Building and Real Estate Office is constructing for the university and which will open its doors next year.

Carmen Alina Botezatu, Director of the Rostock State Building and Real Estate Office
Ralf Mulsow, Rostock’s city archaeologist, will provide insight into the archaeological investigations that took place on the construction site from 2022 to 2023.
