This year, too, there will be special events at the fortress complex in celebration of National Historic Preservation Day.

The Lützow Hunters will be our guests. They will provide a glimpse into the lives of hunters in days gone by. The Föderkreis Festung Dömitz e.V. will provide information on the history of the fortress and the latest developments regarding its preservation as a National Cultural Monument.

At 2:00 p.m., there will be a free guided tour of the fortress led by Hartmut Brun. Participants will embark on an approximately one-hour journey through the fascinating history of the former border fortress on the Elbe, which later became a state prison and where Fritz Reuter, the prominent Low German poet, spent the final year of his “fortress period” from 1839 to 1840.

The tour begins at the access bridge. Registration is not required.

Hosted by: Förderkreis Festung Dömitz e.V., Zweckverband Kulturdenkmäler Ludwigslust und Parchim, and the City of Dömitz
