Museum Festival at the Historic Town Hall in Waren (Müritz)
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, the nationwide Open Monuments Day will take place once again. Coordinated by the Foundation for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, this event has been held annually on the second Sunday in September since 1993. Thousands of historic buildings, parks, and engineering monuments across Germany will open their doors, inviting visitors to experience history and architecture up close.
In Waren (Müritz), too, the historic town hall on Neuer Markt, which houses the City Museum, will once again open its doors to visitors. The focus is on the impressive building, which was constructed in 1796–97 and was renovated and expanded by one story between 1855 and 1857. During this renovation, it also acquired its distinctive neo-Gothic façade with turrets and battlements.
During guided tours of the building, guests gain insights into its eventful history and the exhibitions at the City History Museum. In addition, visitors can explore historic workrooms and the “Bürgergehorsam” (citizens’ hall). A visit with the “Real Mayor, ” who welcomes guests in his office, promises to be a special experience.
There is also plenty for our youngest visitors to discover: Our weighmaster will open the historic council scales, which also serve as the starting point for an exciting museum scavenger hunt. The program is rounded out by a bookstand featuring publications from the Museum and Historical Society and a coffee reception in the beautiful City Hall auditorium.
