Schwerin Summer Film Festival, August 18–22
From August 18 to 22, 2026 , the Kulturforum’s garden will be transformed into a summery open-air movie theater. Every day starting at 8:30 p.m., the open-air cinema invites visitors to enjoy atmospheric movie nights. Before each feature film, an award-winning short film from the FiSH Film Festival in Rostock will be screened—an inspiring collaboration that enriches the festival program.
“For the 11th time now, the Schwerin Open-Air Summer Film Festival is combining special cinematic experiences with the unique atmosphere of the Kulturforum’s garden,” says Silvio Horn, Head of Cultural Affairs. The garden opens as early as 7:00 p.m. for a social gathering with cool drinks and snacks. Stephanie Baak from Rauchhaus Möllin will be serving regional specialties and refreshing drinks.
The five favorite films were selected with enthusiastic participation from the audience: More than 350 movie fans took part in the survey. Now, summer movie lovers can look forward to “Verflucht Normal,” “Nur für einen Tag,” “Glennkill: Ein Schafskrimi,” and “Der Frosch und das Wasser” on the big screen. The grand finale on Saturday will be the German comedy “Ach, diese Lücke, diese entsetzliche Lücke.” In addition to the compelling performances by renowned actors Senta Berger and Michael Wittenborn, young actor Bruno Alexander is a particular highlight, as his acting contributes significantly to the film.
