One Night of Dire Straits - Tribute Show

Dire Straits was a band of superlatives.

Instantly recognizable thanks to Mark Knopfler’s distinctive guitar playing and deep voice, they rose from small bar gigs to the biggest stages on the planet in just under a decade.

As a counterpoint to the punk rock that was popular at the time, the perpetually strapped-for-cash (“Dire Straits”) musicians, with their diverse musical influences, only enjoyed a brief niche existence before they rapidly became one of the most famous and successful bands in music history, selling over 120 million records throughout their career.

With “Sultans of Swing,” they achieved their breakthrough in the late ’70s, putting Mark Knopfler in the spotlight as a singer, songwriter, and, above all, guitarist. The group reached its peak in the mid-1980s with the record-breaking album “Brothers in Arms” and the song “Money For Nothing,” a collaboration with fellow “Geordie” Sting.

But the success and the immense pressure to perform took too heavy a toll on the musicians involved. In 1995, Mark Knopfler announced the band’s permanent breakup.

More than 30 years later, both the band’s biggest hits and the hidden gems beloved by their devoted fan base take center stage in the tribute show “One Night of Dire Straits.” Guitarist and singer Alex Moll, together with his exquisitely assembled band of live and studio musicians, takes the audience on a journey filled with captivating, handcrafted music.
