Archaeological and historical circular walk across the cape, approx. 3 km with archaeologist Dr. Katrin Staude (approx. 2.5-3 hours) Dates: Every Thursday (23.7. - 20.8.2026): 14-16.45 (registration until the day before: 0157-72731751) Price: €23 for adults, €15 for children

On this guided tour with archaeologist Dr. Katrin Staude, you will learn the background to the presumably Slavic foundation of the picturesque fishing village, which is crouched in the 40 m deep riverbank gorge and has reed-covered houses and a small harbour. With its house marks and the small chapel, which is closely associated with the personality of Kosegarten, Vitt has much to tell.

The tour continues along the cliffs where the 12-metre-high rampart of Jaromarsburg, the sacred cult site of the Ranen, still towers. Research results from archaeological excavations and old records by the historian Saxo Grammaticus provide partly consistent findings on ritual acts, the size and nature, but also on the devastating destruction of the temple, which was built in honor of the Svantovit god.

You can also find out more about the ship cemetery between Cape Arkona and Lohme, which contains at least 40 submarine structures - including wrecks, stock anchors and remains from the Second World War.
