The New Film Festival in Nossendorf
At the end of October 2026, big names will meet new perspectives.
For the first time ever, there will be a film festival in Nossendorf. Under the symbol of the crane, it will take place at the end of October at the new nosse Kulturtreff.
Of course, no premiere of this festival would be complete without a director—especially one who lives right next door to the Kulturtreff in Nossendorf: Hans-Jürgen Syberberg. The program features a film retrospective dedicated to this director and filmmaker, who remains highly creative even at the age of 90. The film festival honors the legendary German director with screenings of his early films *San Domingo * and *Sex Business – Made in Pasing*.
Hans-Jürgen Syberberg will also be the first recipient of the Kranich Award—a Filmfest honor recognizing exceptional courage, vision, and tolerance. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 24, at 7:00 p.m. in the hall at the Syberberg estate.
Other guests include the multi-award-winning film director and cinematographer Elfi Mikesch, who will present her film *Verrückt bleiben – Verliebt bleiben*. She served as cinematographer on many of Rosa von Praunheim’s films. The film festival will screen one of his most personal films, *Meine Mütter – Spurensuche in Riga*(My Mothers – Searching for Traces in Riga), a film about the search for his biological parents in Latvia during the German occupation in World War II.
For children and the young at heart, the film *Reuber* by Axel Ranisch will be screened. Enrique Sánchez Lansch will present his film *Pol Pot Dancing*, which chronicles the rise and reign of the brutal dictator.
Oliver Adam Kusio is participating with his Cannes-award-winning film *Ela – Sketches of a Farewell*, a love story set in Poland, and Andreas Boschmann takes viewers to Russia, just across the border from Kazakhstan, with his film *Letters to Orsk*.
In her film *Wer weiß schon, was ein Leben ist? *, Annelie Boroș traces the life of one of modern art’s most significant artists, Paula Modersohn-Becker. André Krummel and Pablo Ben Yakov present a highly contradictory biography in their film *Goldhammer*, about a former sex worker in search of ultimate freedom.
To close the festival, Gerd Kroske’s film *Stolz & Eigensinn* follows strong female workers in technical professions in the GDR shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall, tracing their arduous journey and the upheaval brought about by the fall of the Wall.
Cindy Ohde will be serving refreshments at the Filmcafé. For musical entertainment, Florian Korty (Duotone) will sing songs from classic films. And a thousand thanks to the Nossendorf Volunteer Fire Department for their support.
A free shuttle service will be available to and from the Demmin train station on both days of the festival.
