An evening with Gitte Hænning
The 35th Nordic Sound will be held under the patronage of Denmark in 2026. No other cultural personality has drawn the devotion to our northern neighboring country more warmly than Gitte Hænning. She has been thrilling audiences since the late 1950s as a teenage star in German pop and pop songs, has made funny movies, has found her home in Berlin and, in addition to her great concerts, appears as a popular guest in shows and TV quizzes. Her charisma of Scandinavian optimism and uncomplicatedness, but also her level-headed, more serious thoughts, bring an encouraging attitude to entertainment here.
Gitte comes with her current program, which brings everything she likes best. The entertainer's sympathetic moderation makes this eventful evening extra enjoyable. Great hits ring out. From pop hits to quality pop, they tell the imaginary story of an artist on her way from teen idol to self-confident heroine embracing the fullness of life. No musical styles are played off against each other here, but rather kissed awake, sometimes tenderly, sometimes with a wink.
And because Gitte is a jazz musician at heart, the following also applies to her: it is not only important what you sing, but also how you sing it. Namely, with empathy, with dedication, with charm. At Nordischer Klang we experience Gitte accompanied by Sebastian Weiss on the grand piano and Andreas Lang on the double bass. This intimate line-up is all the more inspiring for the way it lives the jazz spirit in every phrasing, in every emphasis and in every drive. And who knows - maybe there will even be a song or two in Danish or Swedish.
