Dance music and t(r)olle tricks with Thalamus and Trolska Polska

An evening full of dancing and mischief! The sounds of minstrels meet world music sounds, and the six cousins of Bornholm's island troll Krølle Bølle cook up a hearty folk soup.

ThalamusThe

band Thalamus

has been

enriching the Finnish folk scene

for

over two decades, and the quartet has developed a very broad repertoire. Traditional pieces meet their own compositions, in which influences from other European regions, North America and even North Africa can be heard - no wonder they like to describe their style as "Nordic folk music with a global twist".

When the four band members Riku Elomaa, Elina Lappalainen, Pauliina Pajala and Henrik Norri enter the stage with their instruments accordion, bass, violin and bouzouki, the spark is immediate. Their palpable love of music captivates the audience, and they are soon dancing, clapping and laughing. The shared enthusiasm for folk music that brought the award-winning band together in 1997 remains unbroken and highly infectious to this day. At the end of a long concert evening, everyone goes home with a spinning worm: because not only the gray matter in the diencephalon, but also the eponymous band Thalamus has a direct line to the dancing leg.

A lot has happened since 1997, the band successfully won the Finnish folk music championship only two years after its foundation, took a short break a few years later to study and came together in a new line-up in 2013. Then Thalamus really took off: After many European summer festivals and their first album Merenia, which saw the light of folk music in 2018, the quartet went on their first tour of Germany for the German-Finnish Society. Now the band is coming to Saksa (as Germany is called in Finland) once again thanks to DFG, and is looking forward to seeing us in Greifswald!

Trolska Polska
A colorful, lively fairytale concert between myths and music! Trolls, water nymphs, goblins, elves, ... well, what else is crawling, creeping and flying out there in the forest? Whether we believe in them or not, they are alive in our (sub)consciousness. Trolska Polska make this hidden world audible and visible with their folk music and fantastic costumes.

The band is a fairytale ensemble that brings numerous figures from the world of Nordic legends to life with rousing melodies and infectious energy. The Cellesche Zeitung newspaper describes the ensemble as "crazy musical trolls" who "bring pure good humor to their audience for an entire evening".

The ensemble consists of top performers from the Danish-Swedish folk scene. Each of them brings their own character, sound and style of movement to the table. Their live performances are magical: they don't just make music, they play jokes, dance, giggle and jam. So even the name is an invitation to another world. "Trolska", enchanting and mischievous, and "Polska", an old Nordic dance. A promise of music that seduces, confuses and hits the dancing nerve.

With the repertoire of their three albums, Moss (2014), Untold Tails (2014) and Trolska (2014). Untold Tails, 2016) and Eufori (2020), Trolska Polska have performed at major festivals such as Castlefest, one of Europe's most important fantasy festivals, and the cross-genre Lowlands Festival, which focuses on alternative pop and rock.

Let's get ready for a magical experience when Trolska Polska set off on a trip into the magical world of Nordic myths. Because it will leave a deep mark!
