New Year's Concert: The Book of Dreams
Neoclassical compositions at the intersection of film music and Gregorian chant
Jaspar Libuda: Composition, five-string double bass, loop station, live electronics
Jaspar Libuda’s compositions are classical soundscapes, musical stories without words, a declaration of love for melody and the deep emotions it can evoke. A fusion of virtuoso double bass playing and electroacoustic music. Using a five-string double bass with a high C string built specifically for him, along with live electronics and a loop station, Jaspar Libuda creates an entire ensemble right before his audience’s ears. He layers textures and rhythms, weaving melodies and silence into a dense soundscape that is at once melancholic and full of joie de vivre.
A state of limbo between styles and genres. A journey along the boundaries of classical, jazz, rock, pop, and minimal music. With timbres reminiscent of the cello, percussion, guitar, and oud. Nearly 100 compositions have been created in recent years. In the compositions on his third solo album , “Das Buch der Träume” (The Book of Dreams) , Jaspar Libuda expresses his love for both minimal music and Gregorian chant in equal measure. He creates spaces in which time seems to expand from a fraction of a moment into a universe of sonic possibilities.
“Libuda’s pieces develop a pull that is hard to resist.”
