Reading & Talk | Moderation: Alexander Solloch (NDR Kultur)
We see them every day, buzzing through cities everywhere: food delivery men. Tomer Gardi combines their stories into a world tour in six episodes, starting with Filmon, an Eritrean refugee who delivers food in a merciless digital optimization system in the heat of Tel Aviv without a work permit. In Berlin, Filmon's wife and daughter learn German from Nina at the education center, who travels to Delhi for an exchange semester, from where an arc spans to Buenos Aires ...
Tomer Gardi tells of racism and exploitation, of love, family and the great longing for connection - contemporary, international, political and light-footed.
The novel was written in collaboration with Anne Birkenhauer, who also translated the "Mimesis" part from Hebrew.
Tomer Gardi, born in 1974 in Kibbutz Dan/Galilee, is a writer living in Berlin. His debut "Stein, Papier" was published in Hebrew in 2011, followed by a German translation in 2013 and his novel "Broken German" in 2016. He received the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2022 for "Eine runde Sache". Tomer Gardi spent over three years researching in six cities for "Liefern".
