Closing event for this year’s “Museum Winter” lecture series, featuring museum director Corinna Schubert and collections director Dr. Maximilian Marotz.
The museum has been collecting objects related to Wismar’s history since 1863. You might think that after more than 150 years, everything would surely have been collected by now. But you’d be far from the truth.
What does the museum collect, and above all, why does it keep collecting? Who decides what should be preserved, and what stories might be hidden within an object?
This lecture takes you behind the scenes of the museum’s collection. It tells the stories of passionate collectors and unique collections, of surprising objects and fascinating tales, and explains why a museum’s collection is never complete.
