An entertaining documentary featuring an all-star cast that explores the history of German entertainment television in the 1990s—from a woman's perspective.
Germany 2026, Written and Directed by: Isabel Schneider / Eva Müller, Runtime: 96 minutes
Starring: Maren Kroymann, Hella von Sinnen, Bettina Böttinger, Gaby Köster, Esther Schweins
In 1988, Hella von Sinnen made her first appearances on the new commercial television network in “Alles nichts oder?!” and, for the first time, made a noticeable impact as a woman in German television comedy. Five years later, Maren Kroymann brought the first feminist comedy to ARD with “Nachtschwester Kroymann.” At the same time, Esther Schweins, making her debut on “RTL Samstagnacht,” could only respond to her writers’ often misogynistic material with facial expressions. And Gaby Köster successfully made the rounds on various private TV shows as an expert in down-to-earth working-class humor. The last of the five guests in the virtual studio is Bettina Böttinger, who—while not a comedian herself—was a self-proclaimed women-focused talk show host who personally invited Köster, Kroymann, and von Sinnen as guests on her own shows back then.
