Enchanted forests, big cats, wild sheep and a long, hard winter - Germany's northernmost low mountain range has a lot to offer. The Harz is a legendary meeting place for witches and a natural gem with wildlife that is hard to find elsewhere in Germany. The Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz, towers over 1000 meters above the flat northern German landscape. Wild cats and lynx roam the misty forests, while mouflon and red deer live here. The lynx has long since become the region's symbolic animal. It shows that nature conservation and tourism can coexist successfully. Another special feature of the valleys of the eastern Harz are the mouflons. These wild sheep originally come from Sardinia and Corsica and were introduced to the Harz Mountains a hundred years ago. Rare footage shows the small wild sheep in the forests of the Harz. Animal filmmaker and Harz expert Uwe Anders spent more than two years in the Harz for his documentary. He has created a visually stunning portrait of nature, with unique landscape shots and surprising behavioral portraits of the wild inhabitants of the Harz Mountains.
