Berlin 1942: Hilde is in love. With Hans. In their passion, the two often forget war and danger. Then they are just two young people at the beginning of their lives. Hilde admires her lover's courage. He moves in resistance circles. She herself is rather timid, but takes an increasingly courageous part in the actions of a group that will later be called the "Red Orchestra". It is the best summer of her life. As it draws to a close, they are all arrested. And Hilde is eight months pregnant. She gives birth to her son in prison and develops a strength that no one would have believed her capable of.
The film tells an almost timeless, powerful love story about decency and resistance, intuition and civil courage, dignity and fear.
