Former Stasi agent Monika Haeger recounts her work with the opposition in the GDR. The story is part documentary, part fiction.
Former Stasi agent Monika Haeger recounts her work within the GDR opposition. For years, she informed on her female friends to the Stasi, which often had devastating consequences for the women. Arrests, interrogations, and even expulsion from the GDR were traumatic experiences. The Stasi also employed psychological and so-called “white” torture.
Haeger’s narrative comes across as captivating, charismatic, and also trivializing; moreover, she considers her actions—even the inhumane ones—to be absolutely justified, since she was always “on the right side” and only ever wanted “the best for everyone.”
Accompanying Haeger’s monologue are audio recordings of victims of Stasi injustices, which expose the inhumanity of these acts.
