Look forward to an afternoon of local culture - staged in colorful traditional costumes and cheerful music.
Founded in 1962, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern folklore ensemble "Richard Wossidlo" from Ribnitz-Damgarten is not only highly recognized in Mecklenburg and Vorpommern, but also throughout Germany. In cooperation with folklorists, museums and hand weavers, old costumes, traditions and customs from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Vorpommern have been revived. In their stage sets, its members tell the audience about the life of our ancestors through dance. All age groups of the association present their folklore performances with historical and historic backgrounds with a lot of verve and joy. In addition to the dancing, the dialect is also spoken and sung to the accompaniment of an excellent music group. The dance performances are interpreted in a new and modern way and adapted to today's lifestyle. The ensemble is also responsible for the preservation of traditional costumes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and makes a significant contribution to saving them from oblivion. They have the largest exhibition of traditional costumes in our state. In their program "Kinnertied", the children's dance group in particular shows old children's games told through dance. They have performed internationally on 4 continents and in over 50 countries around the world. Most recently, the children's dance group demonstrated their dancing skills at the 2023 World Folklore Festival in Cannes, Nice, Sanremo and Monaco, where they were awarded three prizes.
