Works by the composer Robert Kahn (1865 - 1951), who was expelled from Germany
... with Sophia Maeno and Maša Novosel
The Mecklenburg Foundation invites you to a matinee entitled "A Diary in Tones".
The program includes songs and piano works by the composer Robert Kahn (1865 - 1951), who lost his home as a Jew at the beginning of 1939.
Robert Kahn, who was successful in Berlin - promoted by Johannes Brahms and Joseph Joachim, praised by Clara Schumann and premiered by the Berlin Philharmonic - had a villa built for his family in Feldberg in 1910. This marked the beginning of a decades-long association with Mecklenburg, which ended with his forced emigration from National Socialist Germany.
Schwerin mezzo-soprano and culture prize winner Sophia Maeno and pianist Maša Novosel present a program that celebrates the uplifting potential of the human spirit in dark times. The music of the ostracized composer Kahn carries both melancholy and hopeful vibes. It invites us to indulge in romantic sounds, and in the next moment reaches powerfully into our present.
Sophia Maeno and Maša Novosel have been working intensively on song compositions by Robert Kahn and his "Tagebuch in Tönen" - the largest piano cycle in music history - as part of a project by the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Foundation, which is supported by the State capital Schwerin.
Before the concert, Robert Kahn will be introduced in a short lecture based on intensive research and a new publication by Schwerin Culture Prize winner Dr. Reinhard Wulfhorst.
Admission to the event is free; donations are welcome.
