Paula (Luna Wedler) goes through a deep period of mourning after her little brother Tim drowns in the sea in Trieste. Plagued by feelings of guilt, her will to live seems extinguished. When she meets the old curmudgeon Helmut (Edgar Selge), who wants to take his ex-wife's urn to Italy, she finally sees a glimmer of hope again: to go to Trieste, to the beach where her brother died. Only there will she finally be able to feel close to him again. During the adventurous journey, an unexpected friendship develops with Helmut - and a new zest for life awakens.
