Norsemen Conquer the Island Town: Experience the Malchow Viking Festival Up Close!

When the roar of the drums echoes through the alleys, the Vikings make their entrance at Malchow Abbey! Over two days, the historic abbey grounds are transformed into a lively early-medieval encampment. Immerse yourself in a fascinating era full of adventure, craftsmanship, and Norse myths.

Visitors can look forward to a varied program for the whole family. A real highlight is the spectacular storming of City Hall on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.: All the little Vikings—costumes welcome—join forces with the strong Northmen to storm the council chamber and wrest the key to the city from the mayor. At the festival grounds, thrilling mock battles, weapon demonstrations, and historical minstrels performing live, handmade medieval music create an authentic atmosphere. Those who want to feel the spirit of the seafarers can test their strength by rowing a real Viking boat on Lake Malchow.

Children’s hearts will race in the lovingly designed “Wiki-Land.” With hands-on blacksmithing for kids, archery, puppet shows, or stories from “Leather Grandpa,” boredom is guaranteed to be a thing of the past. Rare crafts such as horn carving, instrument making, and blacksmithing are sure to amaze visitors. In the taverns and at the market stalls, mead, rustic grilled fare, Striezel, and sweet treats ensure that your appetite is well taken care of. [1]

Special bonus: All admission tickets include free access to the museums on the monastery grounds (Organ Museum, Art Museum, “Kiek in un wunner di”) as well as a climb up the church tower!
