Connecting past and present. The passing on of time, memory and history.
Connecting past and present.
The transmission of time, memory and history.
Fabrics that have survived for a long time are imprinted with the time of the people who were once connected to them.
Deep within the fabric that we touch with our hands,
breathe the memories of nameless days, celebrations and prayers.
Even after they have fulfilled their original purpose
and left the hands of their owners,
they retain a tangible "time" and "memory" in their fibers.
The wear and tear of wear,
the scent of the places where they were carefully stored,
and the fading of colors left by the years -
each and every one of these traces is a silent testimony of nameless lifestyles and a fragment of the history we have lived.
I carefully collect these almost lost "past times" and connect past and present using the technique of collage.
The process of superimposing fabrics and paper from different times
and reconstructing them anew weaves together the threads of memory that have fallen apart and breathes new life stories into them.
The stories inscribed in the materials
are carried forward into the present in a transformed form and begin to speak again from a new perspective.
When the distant stream of time slumbering in the works
and your gaze, which encounters them here and now, cross paths,
I hope that you will sense something that is silently carried on beyond time.
