Tragedia Giapponese in three acts by Giacomo Puccini
Boy meets girl - and if they haven't died ... That's what young Cio-Cio San imagines when naval officer Pinkerton marries her. The girl, who works as a geisha, renounces her Japanese ancestors and their sleazy relatives for the apparently cosmopolitan American. She also converts and inquires about the customs of her husband's homeland. Things are a little different for Pinkerton himself: He has bought a house with a great view over the hills of Nagoya, including a beautiful wife, and is delighted that he can give up both the property and the marriage at any time. His compatriot, Consul Sharpless, warns him that Cio-Cio San sees things very differently. And servant Suzuki? She tries to bring her mistress to her senses. Because she has been waiting for Pinkerton to return home since he left for America three years ago and is adamant that he will come back. But did she have any idea what this return would mean for her?
