Silent movie with live music
LSNR plays "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1920)
The silent film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" from 1920 tells the story in flashbacks of a series of murders that take place in a small town. A certain Dr. Caligari and a somnambulist he has brought with him appear to be connected to the murders, but as attempts are made to solve the events, the line between reality and delusion becomes increasingly blurred.
Robert Wiene uncompromisingly had all the sets, props, costumes and even the font of the intertitles designed in the Expressionist style, giving this first thriller in world history a unique aesthetic that still casts an oppressive spell today.
The duo LONG SHUTTER NOISE REDUCTION plays live with modern, atmospherically dense guitar sounds to what is probably the most famous expressionist film.
It combines styles such as drone, ambient and doom with improvised and experimental music. The silent film takes on the role of conductor, making each individual performance a special experience.
