Intaglio workshop. Drypoint etching with Svea Gustavs. We have acquired a modern large-format intaglio printing press from the estate of visual artist Boris Köhncke. It perfectly complements Elisabeth Sittig's existing small intaglio press.
We learn how to use the large press so that we can later work on it independently. Working in large format is both a challenge and a pleasure.
We convert a drawn design into a drypoint etching and print it first in a test print and then perhaps also in a small edition. In the process, we learn that - as with all printing techniques - the image must be mirror-inverted. The special thing about printmaking techniques is their reproducibility. Many sheets can be printed from one template, one printing block.
