The linocut is a graphic technique that uses letterpress printing.
Special knives are used to cut a motif into the relatively firm linoleum. The material can be worked easily and in any direction. Whether portrait, landscape or freely invented, the motifs are designed so that multi-colored prints can be cut from one piece of linoleum. The printing block is rolled with ink after each cut and then printed on paper using a proof press. The printing plates are literally lost after cutting. No special previous knowledge is required.
