At the beginning of the 20th century, Berlin-born Gabriele Münter lives and paints with her great love, the Russian Wassily Kandinsky, in the Bavarian town of Murnau am Staffelsee. The province becomes the starting point of an artistic awakening to modernism that revolutionizes painting and the understanding of art and gives rise to the loose artist movement Der Blaue Reiter.
