The Stralsund Literature Circle is devoting itself to a special literary highlight in May: the current winner of the Leipzig Book Fair in the fiction category, "Goldstrand" by Katerina Poladjan, will be discussed together.
Due to the public holiday, the May reading session will take place in the rooms of the Stralsund Traditionsverein am Katharinenberg.
The award-winning story takes you on a journey through a fragmented century. It all begins in the fall of 1922 on the Black Sea: on the crossing from Odessa to Constantinople, young Vera jumps off a passenger steamer at night. Her little brother Felix and her father Lev remain on board. Decades later, this mysterious family rupture gives rise to a fascinating, partly melancholy, partly humorous reappraisal of family trauma, cinematic art and European history.
Tip: The novel is currently available free of charge as an audio book in the ARD Audiothek (ARD Sounds).
Special feature in May (change of place and time): As the regular date on the second Thursday of the month falls on the Ascension Day holiday, the city library will be closed on this day. The literature circle therefore invites you to a cozy discussion round with coffee, tea and cake on May 14 at 3 pm in the rooms of the Stralsund Traditionsverein at Katharinenberg 34.
As always, new interested parties are very welcome! Registration is not necessary, admission is free.
The Stralsund Literature Circle is an open group of reading enthusiasts in cooperation with the Stralsund City Library who meet monthly to discuss books. The program preview is available at www.literaturkreis-stralsund.de.
