The German historian Annika Strehlow lives in a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast in Portugal. On a reading tour through France, she presents her first novel, in which she comes to terms with her great love for Barbara and her sudden death. Through the exchange of ideas with friends and her preoccupation with Western spirituality, she embarks on a path of knowledge that strengthens her hope of meeting Barbara once again, which is then fulfilled in an unusual way.
