In international crisis situations, the UN Secretary-General is often in the public spotlight. In contrast, little is known about the more than 50,000 employees of the United Nations. Who are the people who work every day to advance the UN’s goals? What defines their work, and what challenges do they face? For the first time, this book profiles 50 German UN staff members, both current and former. In individual interviews, they explain why they chose to work for the United Nations. They share particularly formative experiences and offer guidance to young people interested in a career with the UN.
