An exhibition about the lives of Vietnamese-Germans in Rostock and about their hopes and challenges
What stories shape our city?
A city is shaped by the people who live there. In our exhibition “Lebenswege” (Life Journeys), Vietnamese residents of Rostock share their personal stories. Memories, photos, and historical documents tell of life stories filled with hopes, challenges, and settling into a new home.
The exhibition shows that migration is an integral part of Rostock’s history. It invites visitors to question familiar narratives, discover new perspectives, and engage in conversation with one another. In doing so, it offers a glimpse into a community whose stories are often underrepresented—and creates space for dialogue about history, diversity, belonging, and living together in a democratic society.
You can visit the exhibition from August 24 through September 3 in the foyer of City Hall.
On August 27, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., representatives of the association and featured individuals from the exhibition will be on site to discuss the exhibition.
We look forward to meeting you, answering your questions, and sharing ideas together!
