In her debut novel, Norwegian author Maja Lunde masterfully interweaves three narrative strands and three time periods.
The focus is on honey bees and their importance for people: In the year 2098, the worker Tao pollinates the trees in China by hand, as bees have become extinct. In England in 1852, the biologist William has the idea for a completely new type of beehive. And in 2007, beekeeper George plans to expand his farm in Ohio, but then the bees disappear.
In this way, Maja Lunde not only reflects poignantly on loss, hope and the future of mankind, but at the same time uses her narrative power to create a link to togetherness in families and the responsibility for the next generation.
