A lecture on working-class milieus around the Neptun shipyard until 1933 by Dr. Ingo Sens
Speaker: Dr. Ingo Sens
Rostock's Neptunwerft shipyard was one of the most important companies in the port city, alongside the aircraft works and the brewery, and was therefore always one of the largest local employers. Those who worked at "August Neptun" were generally proud to be part of it.
The lecture by Dr. Ingo Sens takes us back to the 1920s and 1930s. Until the mid-1920s, the shipyard was the largest company in Rostock. At its peak (before the post-war crisis of 1918-1923), it employed around 1,000 people.
Dr. Ingo Sens has researched the history of the Rostock workforce and will also report on where and under what conditions the shipyard workers lived in Rostock in his lecture "Workers' milieus around the Neptun shipyard until 1933" on 4 December at 4 p.m. in the Maritime Museum on the traditional ship. He will also outline the changes at the shipyard when the National Socialists came to power.
