Lecture: Peenemünde - Secret Weapons Forge in the Coastal Forest

From 1936 to 1945, the Peenemünde test site served as a center for military research and production. Across an area of 30 km², up to 12,000 people worked on new weapons systems, such as the first cruise missile and the first large rocket. These were developed as weapons of terror against civilians, manufactured largely by forced laborers, and deployed as “retaliatory weapons” during World War II beginning in 1944. The lecture places these historical events within a broader context while also addressing current social issues.

The lecture will be presented by the HTM Peenemünde (Historical-Technical Museum).
