In the midst of this wintry backdrop, a small otter in the harbor of Waren caused great excitement this winter. If you would like to find out more about "Norbert", you can look forward to a talk by Volker Dienemann from BUND.
Icy temperatures of up to minus 15 degrees caused the Müritz to freeze over. The ice cover reached a thickness of over 25 cm. In total, an area of 211 km² was frozen over. Since the beginning of February 2026, the otter protection working group has repeatedly received information about the presence of an otter in the port of Waren, which was already observed there in January.
The local network on the Müritz "Wir sind Müritzer" (We are Müritzers) also reported on the cute otter, which had been delighting numerous people for weeks. Visitors to the harbor also gave him a name. He allegedly went by the name "Norbert". The otter's behavior could be recorded up close in numerous films.
The event is free of charge. Registrations under 0395 5666 - 512 or info@bund-neubrandenburg.de
